Nitish Kumar on Hooch Tragedy: No compensation for People Who Died from Drinking
Guwahati: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated on Friday that no compensation will be paid to those who passed away after consuming alcohol. In his speech to the state assembly today, Kumar emphasised the message that “if you drink, you will die” and that “those who talk in favour of drinking will not bring any benefit to you.”
This occurs at the same time that phoney liquor caused 53 deaths in the Saran district of Bihar. Earlier, BJP leaders protested against Nitish Kumar after he said, “Jo piyega woh marega” (those who drink spurious alcohol will die) and sought his resignation.
A number of BJP MLAs held a protest in the state Assembly on Thursday over the hooch deaths, carrying banners and shouting abuse at the government. The BJP ripped into Nitish Kumar on Monday, the second day of protests, and continued to stir up trouble inside the legislature over the Saran hooch disaster.
On Friday, Governor Paghu Chauhan is also expected to meet with a group of BJP leaders.
A new incidence in Siwan, Bihar, where four individuals allegedly drank fake alcohol and died, occurred as a political brawl broke out in the state over the Chhapra event. The death toll might increase, according to fears.
The sale and consumption of alcohol was banned in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government in April 2016.
