No compulsory class for students during summer holidays
Guwahati, 30 June: Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu made it clear on Friday that there is no official order from the education department regarding schools to hold compulsory classes during the summer break.
This declaration was made in reaction to recent reports that suggested that vacation-time teaching would be required.
Informing the same, the minister on its official Twitter handle wrote, “I want to clarify that there is no direction from @SchoolEdnAssam or @Samagra_Assam for any compulsory class during the summer vacation. However, the SMC/SMDC are advised to conduct remedial classes and extracurricular activities during summer vacation with teachers/staff who volunteer to do so, as many schools have done in the past. @CMOfficeAssam“
The School Management Committees (SMC) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDC) are encouraged to organise remedial classes and extracurricular activities even though regular classes are not required at schools, provided that teachers and staff volunteers for such initiatives.
Earlier, several schools have taken the initiative to provide extra classes to students over the summer holiday.
