North Sikkim Reopens for Tourism: A Boon for Travelers and Locals
In a significant development for the tourism sector in Sikkim, the state government has announced the reopening of roads connecting Chungthang, Lachen, and Lachung in North Sikkim. This decision comes after a year-long closure due to severe damage caused by heavy rainfall and landslides.
The reopening, effective from December 1, 2024, is expected to revitalize tourism in the region. Tourism Minister T.T. Bhutia, along with local MLA Samdup Lepcha, flagged off a convoy of tourist vehicles on a trial run along the Toong-Naga Road.
The reopening of these routes will allow tourists to once again explore the breathtaking beauty of North Sikkim. Popular destinations such as Gurudongmar Lake, Zero Point, Lachung, Lachen, Kala Patthar, and Yumthang Valley are set to witness a surge in visitors.
The state government has assured that rigorous road repairs and safety assessments have been conducted to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for tourists. The reopening is a welcome move for both local residents and tourism stakeholders, who anticipate a boost in economic activity and employment opportunities.
