PM Modi Embarks on Historic Visits to Poland and Ukraine

National Desk, August 21, 2024 In a landmark diplomatic mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on Wednesday for Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years. This visit, which aligns with the 70th anniversary of India-Poland diplomatic relations, is poised to reinforce the growing partnership between the two nations.

During his stay, PM Modi is set to engage in crucial discussions with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. Ahead of his departure, Modi highlighted Poland’s role as a vital economic partner in Central Europe, underscoring the shared values of democracy and pluralism that unite the two countries. “My visit to Poland is a testament to our enduring relationship as we celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties,” Modi remarked, expressing his eagerness to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the significance of connecting with the Indian community in Poland, describing it as a vibrant and integral part of India’s global diaspora.

Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will embark on another historic journey to Ukraine, traveling aboard the famed ‘Rail Force One’—a train previously utilized by global leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden. This visit marks the first-ever by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine and comes in the context of the ongoing conflict following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

As he prepares to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi expressed his hopes for peace and stability in Ukraine, referring to the nation as both a “friend” and a “partner.” This visit is expected to bolster India’s diplomatic presence in the region amid the ongoing geopolitical challenges.
