PM Modi Greeted by Assam Guv upon his arrival in Guwahati
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday to participate in the swearing-in ceremonies for three Northeastern states.
He was welcomed by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
PM Modi will soon leave to Meghalaya to attend Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s swearing-in ceremony.
Later, he will leave to Nagaland to attend Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s swearing-in ceremony.
PM Modi will travel to Tripura on March 8 to take part in Manik Saha’s oath-taking as chief minister.
Yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Guwahati), Traffic had imposed traffic restrictions on March 7 and 8.
“To ensure the safety of the public, especially vulnerable road users like children, students, women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons on the road and to give free passage to the emergency vehicles like Ambulances, Fire tenders etc., the following restrictions on the movement of vehicles shall be imposed,” the press release read.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party chief JP Nadda arrived in Guwahati on Monday evening.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his cabinet ministers and government officials went to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to receive them.
Drones and other flying activities were prohibited in Guwahati on March 7 and 8 by the Additional District Magistrate of Kamrup Metro.
The National People’s Party (NPP) led by Conrad Sangma emerged as the state’s single-largest party but fell short of the majority threshold in the recently concluded assembly elections in the Northeast. The BJP retained power on its own in Tripura, with assistance from ally NDPP in Nagaland and is expected to form part of the government in Meghalaya.
