PM Modi lauds Assam’s People after zero rhino poaching incidents reported in 2022

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 3 praised citizens of Assam for their conservation efforts for rhinos after the state reported no poaching cases in 2022.

Sharing a tweet by Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Prime Minister in a tweet said that this is a great news and he compliments the people of Assam who have shown the way and been proactive in their efforts to protect the rhinos.

Prior to this, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on January 1 that Assam has not seen any rhino poaching incidents. On January 1, 2023, the Chief Minister informed the populace of this good news while speaking with reporters.

State’s Special DGP, GP Singh, provided data on the historic decline in the number of rhinos killed in the state on January 2 and stated that not a single rhino was killed by poachers in 2022, echoing the views of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“Our efforts against illegal rhino poaching have yielded good results. Last year in 2022, not a single rhino was killed by poachers in Assam. The last such incident happened on December 28, 2021, in Hilkund, Kohra under the Golaghat district. Our efforts against poaching will continue,” Singh tweeted.

CM Sarma stated, “2022 was a momentous year, perhaps after 25 years, not a single case of rhino poaching was reported whether it be in Kaziranga, Orang, Manas, or Pobitora National Parks, during an engagement with media people of various print, digital, and electronic media on January 1. Rhino poaching cases have significantly decreased despite a few isolated examples of one or two incidents.

The Assam CM has expressed confidence in the government to continue its efforts to stop the unlawful poaching of rhinos while applauding the efforts of Assam Police and Forest officers.

Additionally, in yet another progressive initiative undertaken by the state government, there has been a significant decrease in accidents in the state, especially on December 31 and January 1.

Last year, 15 people were reported killed in traffic accidents, down from the previous years’ reports of 50.

Unfortunately, yesterday that is December 31, 2022, Cachar reported three deaths, Golaghat 1, Tinsukia 1, and one dead in Dhemaji.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is confident that with ongoing efforts from the government and support from the populace, there will be no more occurrences of traffic accidents in the upcoming years.
