Poachers Kill Wild Elephant in Tripura; Body Mutilated
Agartala: In a tragic incident, the mutilated body of a wild sub-adult male elephant was found in the dense forest of Tui Rupa Chara, Pramod Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Kalyanpur Forest Department in Khowai District, Tripura. The elephant is believed to have been killed by poachers.
A Tripura Forest official revealed that during routine patrolling and after receiving information from local residents, the remains of the elephant were discovered on Sunday morning. Senior forest officials, police personnel, and veterinarians quickly rushed to the site to investigate the matter.
“We suspect the elephant was shot dead and brutally killed. Its body was mutilated, with parts of its head and hind leg severed, likely in an attempt to collect its valuable tusks,” the official stated.
Following the discovery, the remaining parts of the elephant were recovered, and a post-mortem was conducted. The report confirmed that the elephant’s death was caused by poaching. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this horrific act.
