Police action on protesting teachers leaves many Injured In Tripura
Guwahati: More than 20 people who were protesting for teaching jobs as graduate teachers were injured during a peaceful protest in front of the residence of Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday.
Speaking on the issue, one of the protestors said that they gathered here to meet the Education Minister as earlier he had promised that their demands will be fulfilled but so far nothing has been done.
“It is really unfortunate that without any meeting the minister left his house in front of us. Later, police, TSR and CRPF troops were pressed into action. They opened lathi charge on all the protestors even though our protests were peaceful”, he said.
Over 50 job applicants reportedly suffered injuries, and three people were admitted to hospitals, according to Bhowmik.
He also claimed that male police officers had assaulted a pregnant woman.
Meanwhile, the political leaders from CPIM, Congress, Trinamool and Tipra Motha rushed to the IGM hospital at Agartala where the protestors were admitted.
Speaking on the issue, CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said, “Every day we witness a youth from our state who has qualified in various selection tests for the employment are racing pillar to post for work. While there is a shortage of qualified candidates for various government ministries, politicians frequently avoid speaking with job seekers who arrive in front of their homes.”
He also referred to the government as inhumane and asserted that for the last five years, the state government has been playing tricks on and otherwise abusing the state’s young.
Trinamool Congress in-charge Rajib Banerjee also criticised the police’s actions.
Former MLA and Congress leader Asish Kumar Saha denounced the occurrence and stated that it had demonstrated how the BJP-led administration feels about educated job seekers.
