Police Beef Up Security ahead of Farmers’ Protest in Delhi

Guwahati: The Delhi Police has increased security at the Delhi-Haryana border crossing at Tikri prior to the farmers’ request for a protest at the Jantar Mantar on Monday.

The police have erected concrete barriers at the border with Tikri.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation of farmers, had declared the start of a 75-hour sit-in protest at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday in order to press for their unmet demands.

SKM, an umbrella organisation made up of about 40 farm organisations, has as its main demand the correct application of the minimum support price (MSP) for commodities.

Earlier on July 31, farmers from Punjab had protested against the Centre for not meeting their requests at the Shambhu toll plaza in Ambala, Bathinda, Barwala in Panchkula, and Cheeka in Kaithal.
