Police Intercept Drug Trafficking Attempt, Seize Heroin Worth Rs 1.2 Crore

Guwahati, 12th May: In a proactive move against the proliferation of drug trafficking, Police from Bishalgarh Police Station in Tripura undertook a routine vehicle inspection near Sepahijala Zoo on a Saturday evening, May 11.

With commendable vigilance, the officers promptly intervened, intercepting a motorcycle and detaining its rider, a resident of Paharpur under Jatrapur PS. However, what followed was a dramatic escalation of events as the suspect, evidently determined to evade capture, initiated a desperate bid for escape. A brief yet intense pursuit ensued, culminating in Charilam, where the suspect’s reckless maneuvers led to a collision with another vehicle. Despite the ensuing chaos, law enforcement officers managed to successfully subdue and apprehend the suspect, bringing the perilous chase to an end.

Subsequent to the detainment, a meticulous search operation ensued, revealing a significant cache of narcotics concealed in the possession of the apprehended individual. A staggering 81 packets of heroin, weighing approximately 800 grams collectively, were seized by the authorities. The market value of the confiscated contraband is estimated to amount to a staggering Rs 1.2 crore, underscoring the magnitude of the seizure and the gravity of the illicit drug trade within the region.
