Police Open Fire on Notorious Dacoit “Moto” in Assam’s Boko Area

Guwahati, 23rd June: A tense confrontation unfolded in Lampara of Assam late last night as police were compelled to open fire on Kenaram Basumatary, notorious for his alias “Moto”. Basumatary sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while attempting to evade police custody.

The incident transpired when a team from Kamrup police, acting on intelligence, apprehended Basumatary as part of a crackdown on an ATM theft ring. Sources indicate that Basumatary attempted to escape during initial questioning, prompting police officers to use firearms.

Following the shooting, Basumatary was swiftly taken to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable.

Kenaram Basumatary has been linked to a string of criminal activities across Assam and Meghalaya, making him a long-standing target for law enforcement agencies due to his alleged involvement in various crimes.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

It’s noteworthy that just days prior, on June 21, a team from Assam STF, along with Kamrup police led by Additional SP of STF Kalyan Kumar Pathak, apprehended four dacoits in Singra under Boko Police Station. The operation was based on intelligence suggesting their involvement in an ATM theft planned along their route from Goalpara to Guwahati.
