Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma Threatens to Go on Hunger Strike Until Death for Indigenous Rights in Tripura

Northeast Desk, 24th February: In a bid to raise awareness about the challenges faced by Tripura’s indigenous population, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, former chairman of Tipra Motha and a royal descendant of the state, has announced his intention to stage a hunger strike until death if the Central government does not address the long-standing grievances of the indigenous communities.

In a heartfelt audio message released on February 24, Pradyot expressed deep disappointment with what he perceives as the neglect of Tripura’s indigenous people by officials and leaders in Delhi. He accused them of disregarding the state’s significance and delaying crucial discussions on finding a constitutional solution for the indigenous people.

“I have passionately advocated for my people, and today, we find ourselves at the culmination of this struggle. I have sacrificed everything for my tiprasa (Indigenous people),” Pradyot affirmed in his message, reflecting the profound dedication to the cause.

Emphasizing the imperative of equal recognition and status for the indigenous communities, particularly within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Pradyot stressed the urgency of the situation. He cautioned that if the Government of India fails to take decisive action, he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for his people by commencing a hunger strike until death.

“I am ready to prioritize my cause over my health and family. I am willing to die for my people,” Pradyot declared with unwavering resolve. “I have no fear, as I believe in the righteousness of my cause. I will continue the struggle until my last breath.”
