Prestigious DST-PURSE Grant Awarded to GU

Guwahati: Gauhati University (GU) has been given a prestigious research grant from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India worth Rs. 13 crores under the “Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE)” programme.

This award honours the University’s Science and Technology Departments for their outstanding research contributions to a multidisciplinary research proposal titled “Multidisciplinary approach for the utilisation of natural resources and advanced materials for sustainable development.”

The main objective of the grant is to strengthen the research ecosystem while supporting the current research infrastructure for growth in science. Through this institution, Gauhati University hopes to establish an integrated strategy for laying a scientific foundation for tackling regional and global problems with healthcare, energy, and the environment.

The University is dedicated to figuring out how to use locally available biomass, natural resources, and wastes from northeast India to create pharmaceuticals and finished goods with added value. This would lend support in increasing the local economy and elevating the area’s standing on the global economic map.

During the process, we propose contributing toward the growth, development and improved quality of life of the people in this region in a sustainable manner. The faculty and staff of the university are very driven to do interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.

Gauhati University has proposed to establish a Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in order to facilitate the research suggested below (CIR). This centre would bring researchers from several fields together and enable cross-disciplinary study under one roof. Additionally, this centre would provide excellent research.
