6 Rohingya Detained from Tripura

Guwahati: Ahead of the upcoming election in Tripura, at least six suspected Rohingyas were detained from Sepahijala district of the state.

They were detained from the Matinagar area under the Kamalasagar Assembly.

Six Rohingya youths have reportedly been living in Moti Mia’s abandoned home in the Matinagar area for almost a week.

However, the owner of the house Moti Mia is not at home for the past few days. Locals encircled the house and alerted the Border Security Force and Tripura Police after they became aware of the situation.

They were taken into custody and transferred to the Amtali Police Station for further questioning.

The detainees admitted during interrogation that they had once lived in Hyderabad and worked there.

They later travelled from there to Tripura with the aid of a broker, intending to travel to Bangladesh. The broker who brought them there was unable to pass the international border due to tight security.
