Prices of Essential Drugs Reduced by Centre Following Massive Protest Across the Country

Guwahati: Center reduced the cost of life-saving medications on April 3 in response to widespread nationwide protest.

People who are struggling with the burden of high medical service costs have received significant relief in the decision made by the federal government in lowering the prices of 651 medicines.

According to reports, the government has decided to lower the cost of these medications by 6.7%. Millions of people who depend on these medications to manage their illnesses are anticipated to gain from this decision. Prices for medications used to treat severe illnesses like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and others have decreased.

The decision was made following protests from numerous individuals and groups over the exorbitant costs of necessary medications which have rendered many people’s access to healthcare unsustainable. The public authority’s action is being praised as a crucial step towards ensuring that medical services are accessible and affordable for everyone.

The fact that the public authority had previously established a council to examine the prices of essential medications and recommend strategies to control their costs is crucial. The most recent choice to reduce the prices of 651 medications was made in response to the committee’s suggestions.

Overall, the drop in medication costs is a positive development that will help patients and their families feel less financially burdened. It is a positive first step in the direction of universal healthcare that is more affordable.

Due to a sharp increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), the prices of 384 essential medications such as painkillers, antibiotics, heart medications and more than 1,000 formulations were anticipated to rise.
A senior Wellbeing Service official said that the climb was to guarantee that there would be no lack of prescriptions on the lookout.
