Guwahati: The prime accused in the physical assault case in which an Assam University student suffered serious injuries surrendered on Sunday morning in Silchar.
The university’s PhD student was physically assaulted by the suspect, Biswarup Bhattacharya, who is the president of the Karimganj Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
Reports claim that Biswarup turned himself in early today at Silchar Sadar Authorities Station and is currently being questioned by police about the incident.
It should be noted that last Friday in Irongmara, a PhD student in the Sanskrit department named Biswajeet Rudrapal was physically assaulted by Biswarup, a former student of the university, and another student named Krisnangshu Chakraborty. As a result, he suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) right away.
He is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Following the incident, university students blocked the Silchar-Hailakandi connecting road in an effort to get the culprits in the case arrested right away.
