According to eyewitness accounts, a group of armed individuals stormed into the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow, launching a brutal assault on attendees and detonating explosives amidst the panicked crowd.
The Islamic State swiftly claimed responsibility for the attack through its affiliated news agency, Amaq, on Telegram. However, no concrete evidence has been provided to substantiate the claim.
Video footage from the scene depicts scenes of chaos and horror, with the concert hall engulfed in flames and thick smoke billowing into the air. Terrified concert-goers sought refuge behind cushioned seats as gunfire reverberated throughout the venue.
State-run RIA Novosti reported that the armed assailants unleashed a barrage of gunfire and deployed explosive devices, triggering a frenzied stampede among attendees. Subsequently, the attackers reportedly fled the scene in a white Renault car, as per eyewitness accounts cited by the news agency.
Confirmation of the Islamic State’s involvement in the attack was also echoed by US officials, as reported by the New York Times. Furthermore, US intelligence agencies purportedly alerted Russian authorities about potential threats leading up to the incident.
As investigations into the terror attack continue, the international community remains united in condemnation and stands in solidarity with Russia during this period of mourning and reflection.
