Prime Minister Narendra Modi Extends Statehood Day Greetings to Mizoram

Mizoram Statehood Day holds immense significance in the northeastern state’s history, marking the official recognition of Mizoram as a full-fledged state of the Indian Union on February 20, 1987.

Formerly known as the Lushai Hills district within Assam, Mizoram’s journey to statehood was driven by the Mizo people’s aspirations for greater autonomy and self-governance. The enactment of the Mizoram Statehood Act in 1986 fulfilled these aspirations, culminating in Mizoram’s establishment as the 23rd state of India.
