Rahul Gandhi-led Congress restricted to visit Lakhimpur Kheri

Guwahati: Uttar Pradesh government denied permission to a Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi to visit the violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri where 144 was imposed by the district administration.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had already taken permission for the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress delegation to visit the area.

Rahul Gandhi along with Sachin Pilot, Charanjit Singh Channi, Bhupesh Baghel, and KC Venugopal was supposed to head for Lakhimpur Kheri on Tuesday morning.

However, apart from Congress leaders, the UP administration also detained some leaders from the opposition parties including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Samajwadi Party, and the BSP to visit the Lakhimpur Kheri district.

It may be mentioned that on Sunday a horrific incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri district where Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister Ajay Mishra had allegedly run over a group of farmers protesting in front of his car killing four farmers on the spot. Later the incident allegedly led to clashes, resulting in four more deaths.
