Rajasthan Minister of State Sacked by Government Amid Criticism Over Women’s Safety
National Desk, 22nd July: The Rajasthan government made a surprising move on Friday, dismissing its Minister of State, Rajendra Singh Gudha, without providing any specific reason for the termination.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recommended Gudha’s removal to Governor Kalraj Mishra, a decision promptly accepted with immediate effect. The Governor’s House issued an official statement confirming the Chief Minister’s recommendation.
The order issued by the Governor’s House did not cite any explicit grounds for Gudha’s sacking.
“Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot recommended to Governor Kalraj Mishra to sack the Minister of State Rajendra Singh Gudha, member of the Council of Ministers, in the evening of July 21. The Governor has accepted this recommendation of Chief Minister Gehlot with immediate effect,” stated the Governor House.
Interestingly, prior to his dismissal, Gudha had openly criticized his own government for its handling of recent incidents of crimes against women in the state. In the assembly, he expressed that the state government had “failed” in ensuring women’s safety and advocated for introspection to address the increasing atrocities against women in Rajasthan.
The disturbing case that drew attention to the state’s safety concerns involved the discovery of a 19-year-old girl’s body in a well, following an alleged rape and murder. The Jodhpur Police found four charred bodies in a hut at Cherai village in Ramnagar gram panchayat of Jodhpur, indicating a horrifying crime of murder followed by burning the bodies.
As the controversy surrounding Gudha’s removal unfolds, the state government faces the challenge of addressing its approach to women’s safety and ensuring accountability in the wake of these disturbing incidents.
