Rajiv Gandhi assassination case: SC grants bail to convict A G Perarivalan
Guwahati: The Supreme Court granted AG Perarivalam, the assassination convict of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi bail on Wednesday.Bail.
Perarivalam was granted bail by the court since he had been missing for more than 30 years and hence was entitled to it.
The bench said ‘Taking into account the applicant’s over 30 years in jail, we are of the considered opinion that he is entitled to be freed on bail, despite the Centre’s passionate resistance.’
As per the SC order, Perarivalan would have to obey the conditions of his parole and report to the local police officer once a month.
He is also forbidden from leaving his hometown of Jholarpetai around 100 kilometres from Chennai without first reporting to the police.
