Red Alert Issued for Meghalaya Districts Ahead of Cyclone Remal

Guwahati, 26th May: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a Red Alert for several districts in Meghalaya, anticipating heavy rainfall on May 27 and May 28 due to Cyclone Remal.

The Red Alert covers East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and West Jaintia Hills districts, indicating the likelihood of severe weather conditions. Additionally, an Orange Alert has been issued for other districts, except for North Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, which are under a Yellow Alert for May 27.

Alert levels for May 28 vary across different districts, with both Orange and Yellow alerts in effect.

In an official statement, the IMD warned of potential flooding in low-lying areas and disruptions to daily life throughout various regions of Meghalaya due to heavy downpours associated with Cyclone Remal.

To ensure public safety, the Meghalaya government has advised residents to remain vigilant, prepare emergency kits, refrain from unnecessary travel, and stay informed about the latest weather forecasts during this period of heightened alert.
