Renowned Assamese litterateur and journalist Homen Borgohain passes away at 88

Renowned Assamese author, veteran journalist and Sahitya Akademi award winner, Homen Borgohain has passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 88 after battling post Covid-19 complications at a private hospital in Guwahati.

Borgohain was associated with several newspapers and was awarded the Sahitya Akedemi Award in 1978 for his novel ‘Pita Putra’ which he later returned in 2015 in protest against the lack of tolerance being created at the Indian society. He was acting as chief editor of Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta at the time of his passing.

He was also the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary body of the state.

The eminent journalist was born in December 7, 1932 in a village in Lakhimpur’s Dhakuwakhana district and graduated from Cotton college.

Through his career as a journalist and writer, he was honoured with many prestigious awards and his literary works have been applauded widely.
