Guwahati: The Assam Forest Department will undertake a rhino census at Kaziranga National Park in Assam’s Golaghat district from March 26 to April 1.
The three-day-long rhino census will be the 14th of its kind and will take place till March 28. This will be the first rhino census in the national park since 2018.
As a result, the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division in Bokaghat has determined that the national park will be closed to visitors during this time.
Morning elephant safari rides will be banned from March 26 to 28, while jeep safaris will be phased in to avoid disrupting the rhino census.
The census would be place in 48 divisions within the national park’s premises.
A total of 63 professionals have arrived at Kaziranga to conduct the rhino census.
According to reports, the census would be conducted by a team of state forest department employees, professionals, and volunteers.
According to the Assam Forest Department, the national park contained 1,641 rhinos in 2018, including 793 females, 642 males, and 206 rhinos whose gender could not be determined.
However, forest officials hoping for a rise in rhino numbers in this year’s census.
