Rhino Poacher Injured in Police Firing in Assam

Guwahati: A suspected poacher was injured in police firing in Darrang district of Assam.

He was shot by Dalgaon police when tried to escape from the police custody.

The accused identified as Abdul Matin was arrested on December 15 for his alleged involvement in a rhino poaching incident in the Kaziranga National Park.

As per sources, Matin tried to escape from the police custody when he was being taken to reveal the place where he had hidden illegal weapons near the Dhansiri River.

Matin was shot in his leg after police resorted to firing.

Sources claim that Matin allegedly stabbed UB Constable Sushil Baruah in his chest and tried to run away from the spot. 

The constable was immediately shifted to Mangaldai Civil Hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

The smuggler was shot in the leg as he attempted to flee the scene by the officer in charge of Dalgaon Police Station. As a result, the accused suffered injuries and is immediately taken to Mangaldai Civil Hospital for further treatment. 

 “He is a suspected and wanted poacher. We have seized arms and ammunition from him. When we went to the place where he said he had his hideouts, he stabbed one of our UB constables and tried to escape. I shot at him with my pistol and he was injured. We immediately took him to Mangaldai Civil Hospital and is currently undergoing treatment there.”, said a police official. 

Notably, the arrested accused Abdul Matin alias Kalak Parhi is a wanted criminal who carried Rs 5 lakh reward, from Assam Police.
