Rupahihat MLA Stops Bura Chapori Eviction Drive in Assam

Guwahati: Nagaon district MLA from Rupahihat in Assam stopped the current eviction campaign to clear the Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary from unauthorised encroachment.

The eviction drive was halted by MLA Nurul Huda of 85No.Rupahihat LAC.

MLA Huda is a leader of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).

Two days have passed since the start of the eviction campaign last Tuesday.

Tensions have prevailed at the sites where eviction drive is being carried out.

It should be noted that the district administrations in Nagaon and Sonitpur had launched a campaign to clear the Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary of unauthorised intrusions.

The drive began on Tuesday amidst a significant deployment of security personnel.

According to officials, the large anti-encroachment campaign was launched to clear almost 1,892 hectares of land from unauthorised habitation.

The district administration put in place a lot of security to prevent any unfortunate incidents during the eviction campaign.

Large tracts of public land were allegedly being illegally occupied by encroachers in the area, according to the district administration of Sonitpur and Nagaon and the administration had already sent letters to the occupants to leave the grounds.
