Rupee Declines 4 Paise to Rs 82.83 Against US Dollar

Guwahati: In early trade on February 22, due to a flat trend in local equities, the rupee lost 4 paise to reach Rs 82.83 against the US dollar.

However, Forex traders asserted that the local currency’s losses were constrained by recent inflows of foreign funds and the US dollar’s decline in value against significant rivals abroad.

On the interbank foreign exchange, the native currency opened flat at Rs 82.79 in relation to the US dollar. However, it lost some ground and dropped 4 paise from its previous closing to settle at Rs 82.83.

The previous session on February 21 saw the rupee close at Rs 82.79 in relation to the dollar.

The dollar index which gauges the value of the dollar against a basket of six other currencies decreased 0.9% to 104.01.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 279.41 points or 0.46 percent to 60,393.31 on the domestic equity market. The NSE Nifty index as a whole dropped 86.55 points or 0.49 percent to 17,740.15.

According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) became net buyers in the capital markets on Tuesday by purchasing shares worth Rs 525.80 crore.
