Sarbananda Sonowal: NE Saw Unmatched Progress Under PM

Guwahati: All eight of the northeastern states have experienced remarkable success under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This was stated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday.

The assertions were made by the ports, shipping, and waterways minister while speaking to the media in Delhi prior to the assembly elections in the three northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura. The conference was also attended by Public Policy Research Centre (PPRC) director Sumeet Bhasin.

Speaking there, Sonowal said, “A report has been released on the development in Tripura in the last five years. All eight northeastern states have seen tremendous development under the Prime Minister.”

He said, “During Congress’ reign, Northeast did not see the face of development or respect. The BJP converted the ‘Look East’ policy to ‘Act East’ policy to bring in progress to the region.”

“The progress in Tripura was made possible by the double-engine government. BJP will surely claim Tripura to form the government this year as well,” a confident Sonowal added.

Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha held a rally earlier in the day in the state’s capital, Agartala.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted a door-to-door campaign at booth number 41 and ward number 39 in his assembly constituency of Town Bordowali.

Tripura will hold elections for the Assembly on February 16. The counting of votes will occur on March 2 along with those of Meghalaya and Nagaland.

The election campaign is in full swing in the state of Tripura. Defence Minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh arrived in Tripura on Tuesday. He will speak at BJP’s “Vijay Sankalp” rallies today in the election-bound state’s Unakoti and West Tripura district.

A roadshow from “Ashram Chowmuhani” to “Chowmuhani Mode” was held on Monday at Banmalipur in Agartala. It was organised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.

Shah professed assurance in the BJP’s ability to form the government in Tripura once more, predicting that it will do so with an even larger majority than in 2018. “The double-engine government will return with a bigger majority than before,” he said.

The Home Minister claimed that the massive gatherings that attended his roadshow and public events demonstrated the widespread public support for the BJP.

It should be noted that earlier on Monday, Shah took a harsh stance against the CPI(M) and the Congress in Tripura, which is slated to hold elections, claiming that both parties ignored the needs of the people and the state.

Shah said that the BJP-led government in Tripura cannot be accused of corruption because both parties engaged in scandals while in power.
