SC Grants Interim Bail to Ashish Mishra In Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

Guwahati: Ashish Mishra, a suspect in the Lakhimpur Kheri riots was given a temporary bail of eight weeks.

According to reports, the Supreme Court granted the bail on Wednesday with the condition that he leave Uttar Pradesh a week after being freed on bail and not remain in the National Capital Territories (NCT) of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government rejected the accused’s request for bail last week.

Ashish, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra filed a petition with the Supreme Court to overturn the Allahabad High Court’s decision to deny him bail in the case. Ashish is accused of murdering eight persons, including four farmers, on October 3, 2021 at Lakhimpur Kheri.

Ashish is accused of running over the farmers who were opposing the three farm laws of the Center. After being arrested on October 9, he received bail in February 2022.

Since the Supreme Court had ordered a new review of Ashish’s bail request in April 2022, the High Court received a new application from Ashish.
