Imphal: In a significant bust, security forces in Manipur seized a large quantity of contraband items from a vehicle at Mata village in Churachandpur on January 16.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the personnel intercepted a four-wheeler and confiscated 208 soap cases of brown sugar, 1,73,000 WY/Yaba tablets, and cash totaling Rs 3,37,500.

Two individuals, identified as Chingsen (36) and L Pausuanlal Simte (38), were arrested in connection with the seizure. Following their arrests, a case was registered, and authorities have launched an investigation to probe deeper into the matter.

This operation comes just days after the Manipur police apprehended two members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) [KCP (PWG)] on January 14. These individuals were allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting shops and showrooms across the Imphal area.

Security forces have continued their proactive measures, conducting search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas across the hill and valley districts. Furthermore, 145 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-2 and 301 vehicles along NH-37 were provided safe passage, while 106 Nakas/Checkpoints were set up across districts. No detentions were made during these operations.
