Senior Congress Leader Rana Goswami Resigns from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee

Guwahati, 28th February: Senior Congress leader Rana Goswami has submitted his resignation as the working President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of the Indian National Congress on February 28.’

Following his resignation as the organisational in-charge of Upper Assam, reports indicate that Rana Goswami is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 4.

According to reports, Goswami is scheduled to meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP National President JP Nadda on February 28 to discuss the transition.

Reports suggest that the timing of Goswami’s joining, slated for around 11:29 am on March 4, is contingent upon auspicious astrological considerations. Despite attempts by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal to reach out, Goswami remained unavailable for contact.

In his resignation letter addressed to APCC chief Bhupen Borah, Goswami attributed his decision to ‘several political reasons,’ signaling his departure from organizational responsibilities in Upper Assam, encompassing districts such as Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Biswanath.

Notably, on February 14, two Congress MLAs, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das, declared their intention to ‘support the government’ while maintaining their affiliation with the Congress party. Their move echoes the decision of two other Congress MLAs, Sashi Kanta Das and former minister Siddique Ahmed, who also opted to ‘join the government’ while remaining within the opposition’s legislative ranks.

This is a developing story, and further details are awaited.
