Shooting Incident Erupts at Dehing-Patkai National Park Amid Timber Smuggling Confrontation

Guwahati, 18th September: A shooting incident unfolded at Dehing-Patkai National Park in the Assam-Arunachal border region, involving an exchange of fire between forest staff and a group suspected of timber smuggling on Monday.

Reports suggest that during the confrontation, a timber trader sustained injuries as a result of gunfire from the forest department.

At the scene of the incident, authorities discovered a firearm and a mobile phone. This episode highlights the ongoing challenges faced in safeguarding natural resources and protecting national park areas from illicit activities, particularly timber smuggling, which poses a significant threat to these environmentally sensitive regions.
