Sikkim BJP President Visits Assaulted Former Speaker KN Rai in Delhi Hospital

Northeast Desk, 9th March: BJP State President, Dr. Thapa, today paid a visit to the former Sikkim Legislative Assembly speaker, KN Rai, at Max Hospital in New Delhi. Rai is currently undergoing intensive treatment after being severely attacked by unruly elements in the Melli Constituency. Expressing strong support, Thapa inquired about Rai’s health status and extended his wishes for a speedy recovery.

Politics in Sikkim has been thrown into turmoil with escalating allegations and counter-allegations surrounding the assault case of KN Rai. Jacob Khaling, the political secretary to the chief minister of Sikkim, found himself embroiled in controversy as accusations were leveled against him in connection with Rai’s assault.

During a public address on March 6, Khaling responded to allegations made by the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) president, Pawan Chamling. Chamling had submitted a memorandum to the governor implicating Khaling as the mastermind behind the assault on KN Rai. In a strong rebuttal, Khaling dismissed the allegations, branding the memorandum as “anti-national” and accusing the SDF of attempting to undermine the law.

Civil disobedience emerged as a central theme in the escalating tensions, as Khaling cautioned against its implications. Drawing parallels with India’s historical movements led by Mahatma Gandhi, Khaling highlighted the potential for civil disobedience to disrupt public order and damage public property. Fears of unrest and instability loom large as the SDF threatens civil disobedience, heightening political tensions in Sikkim.
