Sikkim Celebrates 210th Bhanu Jayanti with Cultural Pride and Literary Excellence
Northeast Desk, 13th July: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will preside over the 210th Bhanu Jayanti celebrations today at Manan Bhawan, Gangtok. Organized by the Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Sikkim, the event honors the legacy of Adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya, a towering figure in Nepali literature.
Chief Minister Tamang, along with MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, President of the 210th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee, will serve as the Chief Guest and Session Chair. The program begins at 12:30 PM with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing knowledge and cultural enlightenment.
Highlights of the event include a presentation of the Ramayana by students from Jubilee School, Chandmari, led by Karma Rinzing Bhutia. This rendition will reflect the timeless virtues of duty, devotion, and sacrifice central to Bhanubhakta Acharya’s works. Additionally, poetry readings by students from Modern Higher Secondary School and cultural performances, including group harmony dances, will showcase Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage.
Chief Minister Tamang is expected to address the significance of Bhanu Jayanti in fostering unity and communal harmony in Sikkim, drawing inspiration from Bhanubhakta Acharya’s life and works. The ceremony will conclude with the presentation of prestigious awards, including the Language Prestige Award to Dawa Tshering Lepcha for his contributions to Lepcha Language-Literature.
Awards and certificates will be given to participants of various literary competitions, celebrating their dedication to Sikkim’s cultural heritage. The event will close with a vote of thanks by Joseph Lepcha, Secretary Propagation of the Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Sikkim, expressing gratitude to all contributors for making the 210th Bhanu Jayanti celebration a memorable success.
