Sikkim Democratic Front Office Attacked By Unidentified Miscreants
Guwahati: Another attack occurred on February 5 when some unidentified criminals broke into the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) office in South Namchi which is part of the state’s Gangtok region.
A senior SDF leader Kabita Subba charged that the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was responsible for the assault on the party office.
“After the provoking speech inciting violence by the Chief Minister at the SKM Foundation program yesterday, a mob of SKM party goons attacked SDF Party Office, Namchi, right now. Stones and petrol bombs were thrown at the party office,” said SDF senior leader Kabita Subba while reacting over the incident.
The school bus and Namchi Seven Hills School were also vandalised by the miscreants.
The SDF office at Indira Bye Pass road in the state’s Gangtok district was also attacked on February 4.
According to reports, SKM was thought to be behind the miscreants who threw stones at the SDF headquarters in Gangtok.
The violence happened after SDF personnel on February 3 destroyed Prem Singh Tamang’s effigy, accusing him of being blamed for the “immigration tag on Sikkimese Nepali” in a recent Supreme Court decision.
Following the incident, the Sadar Police detained five SDF leaders early on February 4.
SDF President Pawan Chamling claimed that Sikkim Chief Minister was solely to blame for the immigrant designation which had been applied to the Nepali population in a recent Supreme Court decision.
On February 4 and 5, Chamling had also declared a bandh in Sikkim but everything went on as usual in the neighbourhood.
