Sikkim: School teacher faces charges in Gangtok under POCSO act

Northeast Desk, 27th February: Another case of child abuse has been uncovered in a nearby Gangok school.

The accused—a school teacher—is currently being charged in accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act of 2012.

On February 23, 2024, a written complaint from a local resident prompted the filing of the case (FIR No. 25/2024), which is currently registered at Sadar Police Station. The District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) of Gangtok had instructed the complainant and her employees to look into Rai’s behaviour.

An investigation was initiated following receipt of a letter from the Education Department about the alleged misbehavior. The investigation uncovered a startling reality.
