Sipajhar Eviction: CM claims Third Party involved in Clashes

Guwahati: A day after two civilians were killed and eleven persons including three police personnel were left injured during the clashes at the eviction ground at Dhalpur in Darrang’s Sipajhar, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the clashes might have taken place due to the involvement of a third party.

The Assam Chief Minister said that both the government and the people in the area had agreed to the rehabilitation of the people who were genuinely landless. Chief Minister Sarma said that all the persons who were found to be landless were entitled to get 6 bighas or almost 2 acres of land and the people had even agreed to this.

The CM further said that the entire situation was all in control but a third power might have been involved in the clashes.

CM Sarma also claimed that on Thursday, the administration was set to evict only 60 households but a crowd or mob of around 10,000 people showed up at the location.

The CM further reacting to the demands to suspend the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police said that there was no question of suspending anyone as the order to evict the place was issued by the CM himself.
