Smuggler held along Indo-Myanmar border, heroin, banned Chinese bike and arms seized
Assam Rifles and Mizoram police have seized 90 grams of heroin, a banned Chinese bike and arms during a joint operation at Zokhawthar-Melbuk area in Champhai district along the Mizoram-Myanmar border.
Based on specific information, Serchhip battalion of Assam Rifles and Champhai district police launched an operation, said an Assam Rifles official. One person was arrested in connection with the seizure of the heroin valued at Rs 7 lakh in the local market, he said. Assam Rifles in collaboration with Custom department also recovered huge quantities of areca nuts at Ruantlang area in Champhai district and detained one person on Sunday.
Apart from this, 4,900 kg of areca nuts worth Rs 13.72 lakh, which were smuggled from Myanmar, were also seized and two persons were detained in connection with the seizure during operation on Monday, he added. On November 23, the country’s oldest paramilitary force also seized two banned Kenbo motorcycle in Champhai and Serchhip and recovered arms, including Bretta pistol.
Besides, the paramilitary forces have also seized 390.4 grams of heroin, smuggled areca nuts worth Rs 76.83 lakh and 5,600 kilograms (80 Bags) of poppy seeds worth Rs 25.20 lakh in Mizoram’s Champhai district recently.
