Sourav Ganguly under pressure to join politics, says Bengal CPIM leader

Veteran CPI(M) leader Ashok Bhattacharya has kicked up a storm saying BCCI president and former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is under pressure to join politics and some people wanted to use him for political gains.

Sourav Ganguly recently suffered a mild heart attack in Kolkata following which he underwent angioplasty and is not undergoing treatment.

Ahead of the Bengal election this year, rumours have been doing the rounds that Sourav Ganguly may take the political plunge, although the BCCI president never made his intentions clear.

“We should not create pressure on him (for joining politics). I had told Sourav last week he should not join politics and he did not oppose my views,” said Bhattacharya, who visited Sourav Ganguly at the hospital.
