Sri Lanka: Ranil Wickremesinghe Elected Next President
Guwahati: Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe was chosen on Wednesday to lead it as president.
The political unrest in Sri Lanka caused by the country’s terrible economic situation led to President Goatabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation and departure.
Voting to pick a new president was taking place in Sri Lanka following the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Acting Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe finished in the top three among the 225 members of the House who were able to cast a ballot and take part in the election.
The other two candidates were SLPP parliamentarian Dullas Alahaperuma and National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
