Subramanian Swamy appears before court over 2015 hate speech case

Guwahati: Subramanian Swamy, a senior BJP politician and Rajya Sabha MP, appeared before the Gauhati High Court today in connection with a hate speech case filed against him in a Karimganj trial court.

Swamy pleaded with the court to dismiss the charges brought against him in the court of Additional Judicial Magistrate, Karimganj, for allegedly making a hate speech over the Ayodhya dispute during a function in Guwahati in March 2015.

An FIR was filed against him after he allegedly declared at the gathering that mosques and churches were just buildings that might be dismantled.

As a “petitioner-in-person,” the BJP leader pleaded his own case today.
