Suspected Thief Escapes Police Custody During Hospital Visit
Guwahati, 22nd August: A suspected thief, identified as Bapi Sheikh, has reportedly managed to evade police custody while being taken to Bongaigain Civil Hospital in Assam’s Bongaigain district. The incident has left authorities perplexed and triggered a manhunt to locate the fugitive.
Bapi Sheikh was apprehended on charges of cow smuggling on Monday night. Subsequently, he was scheduled for a routine medical checkup at Bongaigain Civil Hospital on Tuesday morning. However, during the hospital visit, the accused managed to slip away from the watchful eyes of the on-duty police officers, leaving them baffled.
Sources indicate that Sheikh was able to remove the handcuffs, which facilitated his escape. The police quickly realized his disappearance and launched an immediate manhunt to apprehend him. Despite their efforts, as of the filing of this report, the authorities have not been able to locate the escaped suspect.
The incident highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in ensuring the security and custody of individuals while in transit for medical checkups. The search for Bapi Sheikh continues as authorities work to bring him back into custody.
