National Desk, 15th February: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a loss on February 15 when one of its members, Sakthivel (35), the OBC Madurai District Secretary, was found brutally murdered in Madurai.
The deceased, Sakthivel, a resident of Thevar Kurinji Nagar in Madurai, was discovered near the Vandiyur toll gate with severe cut injuries. Initially, reports suggested that the police were investigating the possibility of an accidental death. However, upon closer examination, police uncovered evidence pointing to foul play.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a Madurai Police official stated, “The police initially started an inquiry into the accidental angle but later found cuts in the body.”
Tamil Nadu’s law enforcement agencies have mobilized resources to delve into the matter further. The Thevar Kurinji Nagar area, where the incident occurred, has become the focal point of the investigation. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
This incident follows a similar tragedy on January 31, 2023, when a member of a local Hindu rights group fell victim to a fatal assault. G Manikandan, identified as the Southern Madurai Deputy Secretary of the Hindu Makkal Katchi organization, met his untimely demise in a brutal attack.
Manikandan, aged 40 and a proprietor of a jewelry shop in MK Puram, was ambushed near the Jaihindpuram-MK Puram junction while walking near his place of business. According to reports, the assailants, whose identities remain undisclosed, launched their attack around 8:30 pm, wielding a sickle and pelting stones at Manikandan. The assailants mercilessly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene, leaving Manikandan critically injured.
Despite immediate medical attention at Rajaji Hospital, Manikandan succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
