Thousands of TET Teachers’ Stage Protest in Guwahati’s Kahilipara
Guwahati: At least 20,000 TET teachers have staged protested in front of the Sarba Siksha Abhijan office in Kahilipara of Guwahati on Thrusday.
Teachers from around the state met in Guwahati to gherao the office of the Sarba Siksha Abhijan in protest of different demands.
Many teachers on their way to Guwahati to organise a protest have been detained by police in various locations.
Meanwhile, police officers have been deployed throughout the city, including at the Sarba Siksha office, to disrupt the protest.
After failing to reach an agreement with the government, the TET teachers have scheduled a protest.
According to reports, every district’s Superintendent of Police has been directed not to let teachers from other districts to enter Guwahati to participate in the ‘Guru-Garjan’ protest.
Furthermore, many teachers who arrived in Guwahati by train from other areas of the state were detained by police at the Guwahati Railway Station. A large number of automobiles have also been seized.
It may be mentioned that TET teachers are demanding job security.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that 16,000 TET qualified applicants will be selected by June. The statement was made by the chief minister during the ongoing budget session of the Assam Assembly.
