Guwahati, 30th August: TMC leader Sushmita Dev has openly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remarks linking the reduction in gas cylinder prices to women’s empowerment. Dev slammed the connection made, stating, “To connect gas cylinder price to ‘Sisters’ & their empowerment is sexist – patriarchal to think only women belong in the kitchen.”
Dev further pointed out that this move seems to acknowledge a lack of empathy in the government’s handling of gas price fluctuations over the past five years. “This is not a gift! This is course correction for elections. After elections, it will be revisited again,” she asserted.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma utilized the social media platform X to share his excitement about the lowered LPG prices, labeling it a “wonderful Rakhi gift for our sisters!”
Additionally, CM Sarma compared the LPG cylinder prices during the I.N.D.I.A (former UPA) regime with the current NDA regime.
