Tokyo Bronze Medalist Lovlina Borgohain Falls Short in Paris Olympics

Sports Desk, 4th August: Lovlina Borgohain, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, was eliminated from the Paris Olympics 2024 after a loss to China’s Li Qian in the women’s 75kg quarterfinals. Borgohain was defeated by a 4-1 split decision.

Li Qian, a two-time Olympic medalist and former world champion, dominated the bout, securing a 3-2 split decision in both the first and second rounds. Despite Borgohain’s efforts to close the gap, with four of the five judges’ points tied in the final round, Qian maintained her lead and advanced to the semifinals.

Borgohain had reached the quarterfinals by defeating Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad in the round of 16. However, her journey ended with this defeat.

In a separate event, Nishant Dev was also eliminated from the men’s 71kg quarter-finals on Saturday, narrowly missing out on a medal. The Indian boxing team will return from Paris without any medals as both Borgohain and Dev were ousted in the quarterfinal stages.
