“Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra” Termed as Fruitful

Guwahati: Tripura Pradesh Congress reported on Tuesday that the state-wide Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra was a full success.

On the eve of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the Tripura Pradesh Congress launched the “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra” with the goal of promoting the message of former All India Congress President Rahul Gandhi of uniting the nation and the people in opposition to the divisive policies of the BJP-led government in the State as well as the Center.

The target distance was 12,000 km, but with more than 10,000 congress workers spread out across the state in groups travelled 14,000 km instead.

Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “We performed extremely well and beyond our goal. Common people participated in the program and greeted us enthusiastically, gladly and we received immense response from the people across the state.”

On Tuesday, Barman made the remarks while participating in a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala.

Sudip Roy Barman said, “The motto behind the campaign was to aware the people of the state against the misrule and mis-governance that has flourished in the entire state under the BJP regime”.

“Being a constructive opposition political party, we are here to act as a bridge between the common people and the state government so that the voice of people can reach the ears of the government that has no time to listen to the common people”, he added.

Roy Barman criticised the BJP-led state government for making false promises to the electorate both before and after the election, and he questioned the whereabouts of the two AIIMS that the BJP government had promised to erect in Dhalai and TMC.

He also inquired about the progress of the construction of an IIT Hub in the Old Jail Road area and three new Tripura Bhavans, one each in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kota, Rajasthan.

Claiming that these are the questions of the common people whom the Congress party leadership and members met during the “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra”, Roy Barman said, “Daily passengers have to face extreme hardships in travelling through the local trains. There are 2 MPs in the state and double-engine government too. The condition of local passenger trains must be improved and this is the demand of the common people who are bound to stand for 4-5 hrs while travelling”.

Barman also brought up the subject of the Tripura University’s Distance Education programme being shut down, stating that it is challenging for low-income students from the state’s outlying regions to complete their education. He urged that Tripura University’s distance education programme be restarted.

The lone Congress MLA also brought up the subject of attacks on the media, which she claimed had been targeted at least 40 times in the 4.6 years that the BJP has been in power.

Sudip further demanded that the state government keep its commitments to the populace, including the Rs. 340 per day wage under the REGA, the 31% DA for employees, the compensation and rehabilitation of the Battala shopkeepers whose stores had been demolished by the AMC, and many other promises.

More than 47 Congress employees were attacked during the campaign in Tripura, according to the Congress MLA.

He attacked the state’s BJP government for the law and order situation and added that the party’s “Bike Bahini” had instilled fear throughout the entire state.

In order to remove the BJP from office and restore the rule of law in the state, Congress further appealed for public support.

At the press conference, former MLA Asish Kumar Saha, AICC secretary Szarita Laitphlang, and other Pradesh Congress officials were still present.
