Tripura CM Manik Saha Highlights Government’s Initiatives to Enhance State Health Infrastructure

Northeast Desk, 12th August: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the state government’s commitment to improving the infrastructure of all district hospitals to ensure better medical services for residents. Speaking at a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp, CM Saha emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady blood supply in the state’s hospitals, urging clubs and social organizations to engage in voluntary blood donation efforts to support those in need.

“Blood may be needed at any time,” CM Saha stated, highlighting the critical role of blood banks in saving lives. He pointed out that Tripura currently has 14 blood banks—12 government-run and two private—underscoring the need for these facilities to be well-stocked to meet demand, particularly for patients undergoing surgery. Saha added that blood donation is a noble act, equating it to giving the gift of life.

Beyond the focus on blood donation, the Chief Minister, who also serves as the state’s health minister, detailed the government’s broader efforts to bolster Tripura’s health system. He noted that significant strides have been made in expanding medical education and facilities within the state. Agartala Government Medical College, for instance, has seen an increase in its seat capacity from 100 to 150, while Agartala Government Dental College, inaugurated by the Prime Minister, has already completed its first-year student examinations.

The state’s infrastructure development initiatives include the establishment of trauma care centers at Shantirbazar Hospital, Gomati District Hospital, and Dhalai, aimed at providing rapid treatment for accident victims. Agartala, the state capital, also boasts a trauma care center, further strengthening emergency response capabilities.

CM Saha proudly shared that kidney transplants, once considered unfeasible in Tripura, are now successfully being performed within the state, marking a significant advancement in local healthcare services. Moreover, the government has launched nine super specialties at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, with an investment of approximately Rs 180 crore. The Chief Minister praised the medical infrastructure, noting that the new super specialty unit is a model of excellence.

The event, which was attended by MLA and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, local municipal corporators, and other distinguished guests, underscored the state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare and make advanced medical treatments accessible to all residents of Tripura.
