Tripura CM Manik Saha Urges Citizens to Prioritize Cleanliness and Reduce Plastic Use
Northeast Desk, 2nd October: Tripura Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, has called on citizens to prioritize cleanliness and reduce the use of single-use plastics, emphasizing the need for environmental responsibility. The appeal was made on Wednesday following his participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan event held in front of Ujjayanta Palace to mark the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness not only in the environment but also in people’s hearts and minds. “As we participate in the Swachhata Abhiyan, it is essential for people to maintain cleanliness in both their surroundings and their hearts and minds. We are working towards making Tripura a ‘Plastic Mukta’ (plastic-free) state,” he said.
He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to achieving a cleaner India, stating that while the process cannot be completed overnight, gradual progress can be made with collective efforts. “The promises made by PM Modi will be gradually fulfilled. We cannot achieve everything in a single day, but with everyone’s cooperation, we can progress,” he added.
The Chief Minister also recognized the achievements of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, which has received national recognition twice for its cleanliness initiatives. He assured citizens that the government remains committed to addressing basic public issues while keeping the state and its capital clean.
In addition to his environmental message, Dr. Saha highlighted the ongoing BJP membership drive in Tripura, with a goal of enrolling 12 lakh members. “In 2019, we had around 6.5 lakh members, and this time, we are confident we will reach our target,” he stated, reflecting the party’s growing support in the state.
