Guwahati: A 22-year-old Tripura man who had been certified dead came home on Tuesday as his burial rites were in progress.
The incident took place at the Kalibazar area in the West Tripura district.
The person identified as Akash Sarkar.
According to reports, Sarkar had been missing for almost a month. The family then filed a missing persons complaint with the police station.
Family members assumed he was dead after a body was recovered in a lake near Melarmath under the West Agartala police station on June 3.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased person whose body was discovered was a Kalibazar inhabitant.
“Based on the bag, medicines, and clothes retrieved alongside the body, Akash’s father identified the dead as his son,” police added.
Officials said that due to a case of mistaken identity, a full inquiry would now be launched into the matter.
However, the father of Akash has accused the police of foul play stating that he was pressured to identify the body as his son’s.
